Carinthia in 1965

Carinthia "Christine" Pleasant (born 12 July 1943) is an English hairdresser and pub landlord who was the first wife of Ron Nasty and mother of Rude Nasty, and the wife of Barry Wom and mother of Whack, Wednesday and Barry.

History[]

Relationship with Ron Nasty[]

Carinthia Pleasant met Ron Nasty in 1957, when they were fellow students at the Liverpool College of Art. Although she was intimidated by Nasty's attitude and appearance, she heard that he was obsessed with the French actress Brigitte Bardot, so she dyed her hair blonde. Nasty asked her out, but when she said that she was engaged, he shouted, "I didn't ask you to fuckin' marry me, did I?" She often accompanied him to Quarrelmen gigs and travelled to Hamburg with McQuickly's girlfriend Cathy McGowan to visit him.

Recalling his July 1962 reaction when he learned that Carinthia was pregnant, Nasty said, "There's only one thing for it Carin. We'll have to get married." The couple wed on 23 August at the Mount Pleasant Register Office in Liverpool, with Leggy Mountbatten serving as best man. His marriage began just as Rutlemania was taking off across the UK. He performed on the evening of his wedding day and would continue to do so almost daily from then on. Mountbatten feared that fans would be alienated by the idea of a married Rutle, and he asked the Nastys to keep their marriage secret. Rude was born on 8 April 1963; Nasty was on tour at the time and did not see his infant son until three days later.

Carinthia and Nasty's marriage broke down after Nasty threw an egg at her, with them divorcing in 1964.

Relationship with Barry Wom[]

Barry and Carinthia's weddidng

When she was a trainee hairdresser in Liverpool, Carinthia met Barry Wom at the Cavern Rutland, where the Rutles were playing. Barry was impressed with her hairdressing. When she and Barry married in 1965, Carinthia was not his intended bride. His intended bride, his childhood sweetheart Brenda Liola, was accidentally married to some Scotsmen from Hull, and Barry was heartbroken, though he soon cheered up when he realised who he would be marrying. She co-owns Barry's two salons.

Carinthia and Barry had three children: Whack (born 13 September 1965), Wednesday (born 11 November 1970) and Barry (born 1 February 1994). When Barry went into the pub trade in the late 1980s and the became landlord of the Castle Inn public house in Castle Street, Cambridge in 1996, Carinthia became the landlady of the pub. One of their children followed Barry in the pub trade.
