Rutles Φ is the The Rutles' eighth American release on Capital Records (ninth, counting The Rutles' Story.) The LP was released in both mono and stereo versions.

This album is available on CD as part of The Capital Albums, Volume 2 box set in both stereo and mono mixes (catalog number CDP 0946 3 57499 2 2.)

Music

Rutles Φ includes two tracks recorded specifically for the North American market: "Bad Goy" and "Dizzy Miss Lizzard", both recorded on 10 May 1965 marking perhaps the only time that the Rutles recorded material especially for the US market. "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" was eventually included on the British release of the Ouch! album, but "Bad Goy" was not released in the UK until the 1966 A Collection of Rutles Oldies.

Rutles Φ also included:

• the remaining six tracks left off Rutles '65 from Rutles For Sale
• "No It Isn't", the B-side to the single "Ticket to Rut". This is a "duophonic" stereo remix from the original mono track, with additional echo and reverb.
• two tracks from the forthcoming British release of Ouch!: "I Don't Like You That Much" and "Do You See What I See?"

As on Rutles for Sale, the "Topeka City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey" medley was originally listed only as "Topeka City". After attorneys for Venice Music notified Capatol of its error, the record label was corrected, although the album cover was not.
